The design of coffins has been the same for centuries – a box with a flat lid
The basic design of coffins and caskets has been the same for centuries – essentially a box with a flat lid- and in order to be strong enough, traditional designs are made using thick timber-based materials. We have turned that old idea on its head. The earthcraft® innovation replaces traditional designs with a super strong casket base that we call a ‘carriage’. Made using recycled cardboard (90% by weight) and plantation pine (10% by weight), the revolutionary carriage has been strength tested up to 265 kg.
The carriage forms the base of every style of eco-casket and shroud offering in our range. It has all the structural strength ever needed, so we are able to pair it with a range of low-resource casket shells and hand-crafted shrouds to produce a selection that is beautiful, practical, and sustainable.

The eco-casket combines the strength of the earthcraft® carriage with a fluted, recycled cardboard shell to form a classic casket style. Pictured here with a 100% natural jute pall it is faithful to form and function.
Jute is recognised as one of the worlds most sustainable fabrics, making it the natural choice for a style of shroud set. The gum leaf print reflects the essence of natural burial.

The unique styling of the shroud is enhanced by nature inspired, 100% cotton prints. The set is completed with a matching carriage cover, and lightly oiled timber plates.
